A Week to Honor and Celebrate

February 3, 2020

The week of January 26-31 served as a special occasion for our faith based community. The annual Catholic Schools Week provided a unique opportunity to celebrate the many blessings of St. Agnes.

As a fitting way in which to usher in this blessed week, Bishop Madden celebrated the 9:00am Mass. Included as part of our Eucharistic Celebration were the spiritual sounds of our Cherub Choir. I would like to extend my appreciation to Julie Williams and Dan Baker for their directorial leadership of our young singers. Following Mass, we proceeded over to the school building for a memorable event that serve to the honor the past while looking ahead to the future of our school. The gathering who moved from the church came to hear the Bishop offer a special blessing over the newest addition to our school program, The Stromberg Science Lab. This Pre- K to 8th Grade Science lab program provides a hands-on, minds-on scientific learning experience. We are grateful to Bill Stromberg, ’74 and his wife Lisa for their generous support in honoring his mother Charlotte (Shirley) and father Lawrence for their commitment to Catholic education. Their family’s investment saw Bill and his three siblings attend our parish school and then onto success at local Catholic high schools in the Baltimore area. As Shirley reflected on her years as a St. Agnes parent, she shared with me that the learning environment at St. Agnes instilled a strong work ethic in her four children and taught them to love God and use the many gifts that He blessed them with to make a difference in the world.

On Monday, the Student Council distributed a tasty donut treat and drink to our parents during morning drop-off and then remained on campus to visit their child’s classes. That evening, our parents enjoyed an art showcase at our mid-year H.S.A. meeting. I would like to thank Heather King for the countless hours she spent preparing for this event.

On Tuesday, our students enjoyed a hot-dog lunch that was generously prepared by our H.S.A. parents. And then later that afternoon, our students did battle on the hardwood with our annual 8th grade vs. faculty basketball game.

Wednesday began with our middle school vs. faculty trivia contest. And later that evening, our community gathered for our annual student talent show. I would like to thank Dan Baker, Mary Sites, Katie White and Julie Williams for their leadership of this event.

On Thursday, our 4th grade served as hosts to the special needs students at Maiden Choice School. The Class of 2024 led “field day” activity stations for their student mentees. This fun-filled service experience will be an event that won’t soon be forgotten.

As the week concluded, we opened our doors of faith to prospective school families. And that afternoon, our H.S.A. sponsored a delicious “Teacher Appreciation Luncheon” in honor of the commitment and care that our faculty provide to our school.

What an amazing week! We are truly blessed!!
