St. Agnes - A Place Where Stories Begin

This past week, the National Songwriters Hall of Fame announced the class of 2019. The list that was announced included a rather diverse group of lyricists. One of the names that caught my eye was country music legend Tom T. Hall. Most of his songs were from the 1970’s whose lyrical narration style led his fans to affectionately refer to him as “the storyteller”. In his 1975 song I Care, his tale is about a grandfather conveying to his young grandchild how special he is to him. In one of the lines from the song, the grandfather unabashedly tells the child that “I care. I do. there's no one like you. I mention your name when I'm sayin' my prayers. I want you to know I care.” When I reflected on the simple affection that is revealed in this two-minute song, I have come to recognize that this story is based on love and support from a family who wants that young child to know that they will be with him/her every step of the way.

The type of support that Tom T. Hall sung about, in many ways describes the child centered advocacy that is provided within Catholic schools. More to this point, the National Catholic Education Association has listed “A Dozen Reasons to Choose Catholic Schools”. They are as follows:

  1. We offer an education that combines Catholic faith and teachings with academic excellence.

  2. We partner with parents in the faith formation of their children.

  3. We set high standards for student achievement and help them succeed.

  4. We provide a balanced academic curriculum that integrates faith, culture and life.

  5. We use technology effectively to enhance education.

  6. We instill in students the value of service to others.

  7. We teach children respect of self and others.

  8. We emphasize moral development and self-discipline.

  9. We prepare students to be productive citizens and future leaders.

  10. We have a 99 percent high school graduation rate. 85 percent of our graduates go to college.

  11. We cultivate a faculty and staff of people who are dedicated, caring and effective.

  12. We provide a safe and welcoming environment for all.

As a Catholic community, St. Agnes School has 154 years of success stories where our graduates have used the foundation of their formative years to build a legacy of success. A legacy that is grounded upon the Fruits of the Holy Spirit within an academic program that nurtures the God given gifts that lie within the hearts, minds and souls of our young people. So if you have a school aged child and are seeking excellence in education where the Catholic faith is taught to serve as a moral compass for our students, then consider attending our January 25 Admissions Open House event. To learn more about our educational program and the unique spirit which lives within BEAR NATION, please contact the school office to register for this special occasion.
