Catholic Schools Week

Since 1974, Catholic Schools around our nation have dedicated a week of time to honor the many blessings of our educational communities. This year’s theme, Learn – Serve - Lead - Succeed, served as fitting reminder that St. Agnes offers a unique program that forms students of virtue in heart, mind and soul. From Sunday, January 28th through Friday, February 2nd, our community celebrated all that is good about our school.

As we began our celebration of Catholic Schools Week, during the scheduled weekend masses, current students spoke about the considerable influence that St. Agnes School has had on their relationship with God, on their academic development, as well as how it has nurtured the quality of leadership within them. Listening to this impressive group of young people speak, it was easy to recognize their confidence as leaders who feel called to faithfully live out our Gospel values.

As the week continued, Monday saw our community honor our families with our “Pastries with Parents” event. As our parents and guardians enjoyed a delicious donut and a hot cup of coffee to start their day, our students used this occasion as an opportunity to present their family members with a heartfelt written note of gratitude for the gift of sending them to the best Catholic school in the Baltimore area.

On Tuesday afternoon, our young people enjoyed a tasty hot-dog lunch sponsored by our H.S.A. parents. This Student Appreciation Day also included a fun-loving, yet intense basketball game between the Faculty and 8th grade students. As one might imagine, the youthful stamina and basketball prowess of the Class of 2018 elevated the student team to a successful win over the staff.

As Wednesday arrived, the festivity continued with the St. Agnes version of Jeopardy with a Faculty team competing against teams from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. And before this joyous day would conclude, the talents of BEAR Nation were on full display as our students (and faculty) shared their artistic gifts as performers in the annual St. Agnes Talent Show.

On Thursday, we used our assigned Catholic Social Teaching theme of Solidarity as an occasion in which to share the joy of peace to the residents of Frederick Villa Nursing Care Center. During our “Peace Parade”, the entire school community processed down to visit our local neighbors and present them with Peace Dove projects as our students sang “Let There Be Peace on Earth” to the residents.

As this blessed week concluded, on Friday we welcomed twenty future families to our Admissions Open House. And later that day, our H.S.A. parents served as generous hosts for a Teacher Appreciation luncheon.

What a festive and blessed week to celebrate all that is great about our Catholic school!
